Webmaster Revenue

Many webmasters run their own businesses by contracting with clients that need their services building, maintaining and hosting websites. Then there are those entrepreneurs that make their living from creating their own pages but those webmasters know that you can’t just put up a nice webpage then sit back and collect the money. You have to work at it after all the work of creating it!

Once your page or pages are “live” on the net, any money you make from it depends on “traffic”, the number of people that visit your site. Whether you have a product to sell or you’re farming out banners, you will have to advertise in order to herd traffic to your particular section of the internet. Aside from having the proper keywords and metatags, advertising is the most important thing you can do to make your webpage work for you.

Advertising your site can be done by buying space on other peoples’ pages or buying time on one of the many PTC (pay to click) sites around the net. PTC sites pay surfers to click on ads and view them, sometimes as high as one cent per ad. You’ll pay twice that for the service but it can pay off very well in sales or traffic. Your traffic stats will attract advertisers that will pay you to place their ads on your page.

Webmasters can also join “affiliate” programs; these programs pay the webmaster to advertise their goods on the site. When someone buys the product after clicking the ad on your site you get a commission on the sale. Some of these programs can be very profitable! Websites that effectively advertise themselves and, in turn, sell advertising are often quite successful.
