Web Hosting Review

Are you contemplating searching for a new web host or planning to start a website? By using many of today’s search engines, you will most likely run into a number of web hosting review sites that will either recommend and or rank web hosting companies based on certain criteria, such as package offerings, price and support. Be sure to review a couple of these sites before you make a decision and do not JUST follow the reviews alone, but also go to the homepages of each of the web hosts and do your own research.

An actual web hosting review site usually will rank and review a number of web hosting companies and take into consideration feedback from end-users like yourself when determining the quality of service(s) offered. Obviously you must realize that not everyone bases their choices on the same criteria. This will explain the many numerous web hosting review sites out there. Mainly, these sites will concentrate on one or two issues such as price/support or support/services.

As an individual or company looking for a web host, you need to differentiate which rating review site actually gives you the information that you are most interested in. Are you solely focused on price or would you rather pay more for better service. From experience, you don’t always get better service by paying more, but there is a correlation between the price paid and the level or quality of service/support you receive. Again, I’d like to reiterate that a review site is great for being able to review a number of web hosts without having to constantly search for each one because the homework is done for you. Due diligence though is an important factor and you need to go above and beyond just these review sites./p>

The advantages of using a web hosting review

These sites are for you to be able to make your decision in a quicker fashion which is always great. I mean who really wants to go through host after host and make the wrong decision when the information is right there in front of you. What you DO need to look out for are those biased web hosting review sites that really are only there to market their own company name or some even have multiple companies that they own and they review. When you come across a review site, first do a search for the web site itself and see if there are articles or posts in forums written about these sites. For the most part, this is public knowledge that web host “X” runs “x review web site”. This is what you need to avoid. Biased sites are not where you need to go to find a web host that will work for you.

Another way to determine whether a web hosting review site is biased is to see who is hosting them and if it is the same company that is also listed on the review site (usually number 1) is an almost give’n that the site is owned and operated by the hosting firm in question. There will also be posts made on the internet regarding this as many internet savvy individuals don’t let something like this slide as it is really considered very suspicious marketing. In the end, you really need to do your homework to determine the web host for you.

Here are a few things to look for that would make your life easier and definitely quicker. If you want to go for price, do not go for numbers as the price needs to relate to what features you are getting. For example, if a $2 package offers the same resources as a $7 package, then you might want to reconsider. Remember, the numbers almost ALWAYS fool the shopper. Do not let this fool you into purchasing from the wrong company. What you need to do is compare apples to apples and tell yourself that you need to compare two or more companies in the same price range, then start your evaluating as to which one really does offer what you want. Review web sites will help in that respect, but they do not necessarily compare apples to apples all the time. This may be because they are biased or they just don’t do it that way. Always keep in mind that you get what you pay for.

In the old days, hosting used to cost $35 or more per package and a lot less features and offerings. These days, because of economies of scale and competition, prices have dropped significantly due to lower prices for hardware and internet backbone services in general. Great bonus for the rest of us. Paying high prices and also reading positive remarks from other current clients of a company are the best way to determine that you will in fact get decent or above average support. Attempt to ask the web host if they can refer you to one of their clients so you can speak with them or make sure that the testimonials are from current users and not from old users that left. This is very common and tells you that something is not right.

In short, I want to reiterate that web hosting review sites are a great way to get initial information about a company, but do not take that information as your sole basis for making a firm decision. You need to compare prices, search the major search engines to find out more and really, ask friends first before you decide. It is most likely their answers are more trustworthy and honest. Price and support are the two major points for most people, but remember what I told you; compare apples to apples or your web host evaluation won’t mean anything.
