Spammerific!

Posted by web-hosting-blog on 26 Nov

For almost 2 decades now we have and are NOT fond of spam, the unsolicited, NOT the food, though some may argue the latter is worse. Most recently, we have seen the like of McColo go down in a blaze of glory as the upstream providers moved in and shut the operation down where the hosting provider was an accessory to spammers. Most of the time, you shut one down, another springs up and the volume of spam has been growing. Since the shutdown, a fortnight has shown light at the end of the tunnel, where global spam has seemed to have dropped by 75% and has remained so. Taking out the culprit at its sources provides a sense of satisfaction that finally something effective was done to combat spam!

Law Enforcement and DNA – New Combination

Posted by technology-blog on 26 Nov

Seems that nothing is within reason if searching for a criminal these days. FBI nd other national law enforcement are now attempting to find criminals by using the national DNA database by searching for similar patterns of genetic sequences. The understanding is that by finding family members of criminals (bad guys), they can then make contact and try to search out and locate that law breaker. Is this going too far? Have we completely thrown out and given the government our privacy?

Picking Water From Air

Posted by technology-blog on 24 Nov

A new contraption developed by a Canadian firm (Element Four) has created a home-use appliance that can create water by condensing air molecules. It’s ball shape closely resembles a globe that is chopped in half. This water goes through a sterilizing process and through UV light to kill unwanted bacteria and other things that can make us sick and finally out the spout of out sink and or Fridge. Will it take off? “Bottled water is an ecological catastrophe. In the US alone, about 30bn litres of bottled water is consumed every year at a cost of about $11bn (£7.4bn).” The water supply worldwide is not going to improve any time soon and this is a very strong candidate to change the way we think about the environment. During dry climate areas, the machine changes the way it collects water by collecting more at moist times such as early morning or during the night.

Ratepoint Implementing Multiple Language

Posted by web-hosting-blog on 20 Nov

Most hosting companies these days, especially American based are very uni-lingual aside from the third party control panel that they have incorporated into their system. That's about as far as they go with reference to multi-linigual support, if you consider that support. those that have in-house development of a control panel, you can forget about multi-languages as this would be too much in the way of development for them even if it only requires some translation. In order to circumvent this and offer a broader more realistic approach to support, Ratepoint is now integrating LIVE multi-language support. These three ADDITIONAL languages are German, Spanish and French which gives an opportunity to some international customers that price, security and integrity are far more advanced than their local companies respectively. Historically, technological pricing in North America are much cheaper than their international counterparts, but the major barrier was language. Some made efforts to appreciate the cheaper pricing, but found it difficult to do anything beyond that factor. Now, this bridge has been crossed and Ratepoint hopes to increase their corporate base by not only offring a unique solution within the hosting industry, but to also broaden their target market to international hosting companies.
